SAGA GRANTEE 2023

SAGA GRANTEE 2023

FoMm is elated to be a 2023 recipient of a Spokane Arts Grant Award (SAGA).

In a new project, we bring together the photographs of Willis E. Bell and the poetry of Ghanaian writer Efua T. Sutherland.

Bell’s beautiful black and white photos of children at play in Ghana will be juxtaposed with the delightful poems of the late Efua Sutherland, an author, poet and child advocate, and curated into an outdoor exhibition reflecting the universality of play across place, culture and time.

With SAGA support, we will produce ten double-sided photo and poem montages and two contextual exhibition panels to be exhibited in a local park setting.

Board members Amowi Phillips and Jennifer Compau will introduce the story behind the project in community settings. This includes Charles Pepiton’s “Arts in the Community” class at Gonzaga University, and “Thursday Arts (P)review” on Spokane Public Radio, hosted by E.J. Lannelli.
